Global analysis of reptile elevational

چکیده

Aim Latitudinaland regional-scale studies of reptile diversity suggest a predominant temperature effect, unlike many other vertebrate richness patterns which tend to be highly correlated with both temperature and water variables. Here I examine montane gradients in reptile species richness with separate analyses of snakes and lizards from mountains around the world to assess a predominant temperature effect and three additional theories of diversity, including a temperature–water effect, the species–area effect and the mid-domain effect (MDE).

ارزیابی اثربخشی مناطق حفاظت‌شدۀ استان اصفهان در کاهش اثرات خشکسالی و مداخلات انسانی

Habitat heterogeneity plays an important role in increasing species diversity. Heterogeneity of habitats and protected areas can increase the ability of species to adapt to climate change. It is expected that appropriate heterogeneity is necessary for sustainability of protected areas. The influence of altitude on parameters such as temperature and precipitation and the role of microclimates in...

Could temperature and water availability drive elevational species richness patterns? A global case study for bats

Aim A global meta-analysis was used to elucidate a mechanistic understanding of elevational species richness patterns of bats by examining both regional and local climatic factors, spatial constraints, sampling and interpolation. Based on these results, I propose the first climatic model for elevational gradients in species richness, and test it using preliminary bat data for two previously une...

Elevational Distribution and Extinction Risk in Birds

Mountainous regions are hotspots of terrestrial biodiversity. Unlike islands, which have been the focus of extensive research on extinction dynamics, fewer studies have examined mountain ranges even though they face increasing threats from human pressures - notably habitat conversion and climate change. Limits to the taxonomic and geographical extent and resolution of previously available infor...

The existence of a unimodal or monotonic pattern in species richness and diversity along an elevational gradient: a case study in Heydari Wildlife Refuge, NE Iran

This article presents an analysis of plant species richness and diversity, concerning some climatic variables along a 1500-m elevation gradient on the Binalood Mountain in Heydari Wildlife Refuge (HWR), northeastern Iran.  Two hundred and thirteen nested-sampling quadrats were established and the abundance of the plants was recorded. Vegetation sampling was carried out from 2014 till 2016, foll...

A computational model of depth perception based on headcentric disparity

It is now well established that depth is coded by local horizontal disparity and global vertical disparity. We present a computational model which explains how depth is extracted from these two types of disparities. The model uses the two (one for each eye) headcentric directions of binocular targets, derived from retinal signals and oculomotor signals. Headcentric disparity is defined as the d...
